J Smiles Cares

This page is dedicated to causes JSmiles cares about. Read and learn how you can help JSmiles make the world a more "conscious" place!

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is JSmiles’ happy place. She owns the largest-private authenticated collection of game worn sports memorabilia. Her partnership with the Smithsonian is the reason this internationally renown museum is now home to a sports gallery. JSmiles is determined to honor her late father, Jock Michael Smith, Esquire, by putting his collection on prominent display forever. Consider adding your name on the donor list along with JSmiles’ by visiting NMAAHC’s website at https://nmaahc.si.edu.

Alzheimer's Association

Alzheimer’s Disease is currently waging war with JSmiles' mom and it contributed to her maternal grandfather's death. She is committed to finding a cure. Did you know that Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in America, costing more than cancer and heart disease? Yet research its dollars pale in comparison to cancer. Howard University

While JSmiles is passionate about all of her alma maters, she believes the institution where she earned her undergraduate degree, Howard University, set the tone for how she tackles the world. JSmiles has hosted major fundraisers for Howard University’s Office of the President. At Howard's sesquicentennial celebration, JSmiles pledged $1,000.00 to the College of Engineering for each of its 150 years. Did you know that history-makers such as the former mayors of Washington, DC, (Sharon Pratt), Atlanta (Andrew Young, Shirley Franklin, and Kasim Reed), and New York City (David Dinkins) all attended Howard University? They join other distinguished alumni such as sisters and actresses Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen Nixon (producer/director) and the late U.S. Supreme Court justice and civil rights attorney, The Honorable Thurgood Marshall. Join JSmiles smiles in her efforts to support the university of legends. Give to Howard University here:  https://giving.howard.edu.

American Heart Association

JSmiles’ father, Jock Michael Smith, Esquire, literally fell dead from a massive heart attack. Although he appeared to be in “good” health, went to the doctor regularly, exercised, and slept eight hours per night, he is one of the 610,000 people who die from heart disease every year in the United States. After his death, JSmiles vowed to push for greater awareness and routine testing. She has become an advocate and evangelist for the cause that the American Heart Association’s CEO and vice presidents have come to value. Her mission is have the medical world and insurance companies approve a routine age and genetics based preventative heart exam. JSmiles calls it “a mammogram for the heart.”  Did you know that American Heart Association is the research leader for strokes too? Join the list of names in support of the American Heart Association in her father's memory by donating at: https://www.heart.org

Mentoring middle school, high school and college age kids gives JSmiles tremendous joy. She often speaks at career days and always encourages listening to your-inner voice. Support JSmiles mentorship organization of choice here: https://www.mentoring.org
