Stand-up founT me in 2015 after my daddy dying and watching my mommy “catch” dementia less than 90 days later put me on tilt. I strolled the comedy streets searching for oxygen ‘cause my new-nu life sucked eggz! Without planning to, I started my 4th career — stand up. Evah since, I've rocked comedy clubs, corporate stages, private events and audiences around the globe. Places like the Bahamas, Italy, South Korea and the USA put me on stage. Notables like Guy Torry, Faison Love, Kim Coles, Donnell Rawlings, Roland Martin, Gary Owen and allowed me to share their spotlight.
My style is animated, honest and boundary shifting. I generate understanding amongst genders, cultures and generations. Crafting unapologetically GEN-X — chicks rule — racism is dumb type material, remarkably suitable for all yawl is invigorating.
My raw take on Hulu’s Freaknik documentary went viral, bringing GEN Z fans in droves.
I work hard to give the people what-dey-want: whether clean, cusssin’ or customized content at corporate events, national conferences, dive bars or ya auntie’s cookout… I go you!
Before foolishness, I spent decades as an accomplished engineer, product designer and lawyer at Ford, Gillette and The Cochran Law Firm respectively. Translation, my perspective is not narrow and not common.
My grandfather is surely looking down mad as the dickens that I squandered all the skoolin’ for punchlines. Sorry Grangraddy.
And if my mom is straight then I’m using da passport, napping, trying weird food, scuba diving or fighting for favorite status with one ov’ my 14 godkids.
I’m unreasonably passionate about my alma mater’s: Howard, Stanford, Cumberland and my sorority — Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
The Holy Spirit bullied me into podcasting at the height of the 2020 Pandemic. I ain’t wanna do it. Until that point, my comedy routines did NOT include a sick mama or a dead daddy. But that little loud azz unrelenting voice— UGH! — “J Smiles WILL tell the whole truth. No filter. Ghurlah, caregivers are isolated and suffering.
